Disability Conscious
It is essential that design for people with mobility impairments should be to the highest possible standards. Look out for the blue Symbol, which has been assigned to products that are Disability conscious, and incorporate the following guidelines:
BOLLARDS
Bollards installed 1000mm or higher can aid the visually impaired. Reflective tape and colour contrast marking can help partially sighted people.
CYCLE STANDS
Tapper bars can aid the visually impaired.
SEATING
In general, a variety of seating in an area is acceptable, provided that some of the seating is suitable for the needs of the Disabled. Seat height and arm rests can be an aid when alighting. Ideally at least one armrest should not be at the extreme end of the seat but set in so as not to restrict the lateral transfer from a wheelchair to the seating. They should also not restrict front or oblique transfer. A supportive back‑rest should be incorporated for at least 50% of the length of the seat. Refer to "BS 8300:2009+A1:2010 Design of buildings and their approaches to meet the needs of disabled people – Code of practice" for further guidance.
Note: this standard does not refer to the actual seat surface shape. Furnitubes seats are available with a selection of curved or flat surfaces, to suit a variety of applications. (ie: a slightly curved or sloped surface can add comfort and assists with water run-off so that slats are generally kept drier.)
Sold secure certified
Many of Furnitubes telescopic and access bollards hold the Secure Sold 'Gold' Rating. This ensures your product has been tested to the highest standards.
PRODUCT SYMBOLS
These products have been specifically designed to prevent damage from ram-raiders. Features range from a 600 mm deep core to the use of heavy duty steel. See specific product pages for more information.
Many of Furnitubes litter bins are available with a cigarette stubber and/or ashtray to deposit cigarette butts and ash waste. Many of these products keep cigarette waste away from the main litter. See product pages for specific details.
Many of Furnitubes litter bins are available with bird proof flaps, visually hiding the contents of waste in the bin and functionally keeping birds and vermin out.
The base of many of Furnitubes steel and stainless steel litter bins can be baited. A special lid keeps the rodents within an enclosed area, protecting the bin liner. Rodent base bait is available with the Peterborough, Zenith and Liverpool litter bins.
