Furnitubes contributes to the Olympic Legacy in Hackney!

Furnitubes recently supplied bespoke seating to Wick Green, a park and recreation area in Fish Island, Hackney.  The scheme is once of a series of projects for MUF Architecture and J+L Gibbons, who were commissioned by the Olympic Legacy Company to design and deliver projects in Hackney to transform the public realm.

The concept behind the scheme was to provide seating that was comfortable for families, children & the elderly, so the while community could enjoy.

MUF Architecture approached Furnitubes with ideas for a modified version of the Metropolitan steel & timber seat, adapted so it was inclusive for all. After consultation with our design team, three types of the Metropolitan seat were designed and manufactured for Wick Green:

Armrests were added to the Metropolitan seat to make it easier for elderly and disabled users to manoeuvre in and out of the seats. The seat height ranges from 450 to 460, within the optimum range for ease of use. The double-sided infant seat provides comfortable seating for young children without parents having to lift the child in and out of the seat. The seat standards were plastic coated PPA571 to co-ordinate with other elements in the scheme.

The scheme was completed in time to welcome the extra visitors in the area from the Olympic and Paralympic games. This is just the start of the Olympic Legacy in Hackney; more parks and neighbourhoods are due to benefit from development in the coming years. We look forward to seeing how the area will transform!

Did you know…? Fish Island is bounded by the River Lea, the Hertford Union canal and the East Cross Route, and is so called because of its street names (Roach Road, Bream Street, etc).
