Furnitubes provides seating to new International Bomber Command Centre

On Friday 2nd October 2015, over 300 Bomber Command veterans (the largest gathering since WWII) attended the official unveiling of the new Memorial Spire at the International Bomber Command Centre (IBCC) near Lincoln.

The iconic spire and the walls of remembrance represent the first major development in the creation of the IBCC, which was opened by Lord Howe, the Minister of State for the Ministry of Defence, with the completion of this stage timed to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII.

When the project is finalised, the centre will include the Chadwick Centre, the Bomber Command Digital Archive and the International Peace Garden.

The spire itself is designed to represent flight and aviation, its height matching the wingspan of the Avro Lancaster Bomber and the width at the base matching the overall width of a Lancaster wing.

The walls of remembrance record the names of over 55,000 men who lost their lives serving in Bomber Command, and provide a deserved and lasting memorial for the their bravery and ultimate sacrifice.

Heavily involved in the project to date have been Place Architecture, with Stephen Palmer responsible for the design of the spire. The team at Place Architecture have been commissioned to project manage and design all elements across the site.

Also involved have been Influence landscape architects, who were appointed to the design team and worked with the architects to create a suitable setting for the Memorial Spire and a place where relatives and visitors can pay their respects.

With the first phase of works now complete, we look forward to seeing this project as it progresses over the next two or three years. We were delighted to see some of the veterans relaxing on our uniquely created, stylish variation of the RailRoad seats.
