George Green's School, East London

Project details:
At either side of the main entrance to George Green’s School in London’s Isle of Dogs stand two significant London Plane trees. Over time heavy footfall across the ground and around the base of the trees has resulted in compaction of the soil, posing a threat to the tree’s long term health.

With a need to protect the ground from further compaction, the school required a solution to deter pedestrians from walking too close to the trees. The Stirling range of seats and benches was chosen for this site as it provided all of the varying layout requirements from a single product range. Curved benches have been adjoined to form part-circles around the trees. Straight benches have been linked to these circles, and these straight units also double up as independent seating options.

Using seats for this purpose (rather than fencing or posts) has provided useful seating for parents waiting to collect their children, and generally enhanced the entrance to the school.
