Wimbledon Town Centre Regeneration, London

London Borough of Merton

FM Conway Ltd

Project details:
Merton Council was awarded £4.45m from the Greater London Authority’s regeneration fund to improve areas within the borough. An initial phase of these regeneration works was the improvements to Wimbledon Town Centre, and the transformation of Wimbledon Station Forecourt to improve the overall appearance and functionality of the area. Merton Councils appointed highways maintenance contractor FM Conway, carried out the works. They cleared the areas of unnecessary street signs and installed new quality paving and street furniture.

As part of the Wimbledon Town Centre Regeneration the London Borough of Merton required quality, contemporary public realm furniture. The council went with a range of stunning stainless steel products which complemented the area, and are visually coordinating.

The London Borough of Merton wanted to supply seating to the Station forecourt area, however they wanted the option to remove the seating during the Wimbledon tournament, when the station would be at its busiest. After discussing their problem with our design team, our designers came up with the solution of installing the Zenith Bench in one of our F1 115 large retention sockets. This allows the bench to be removed during Tennis match hours to reduce crowding, whilst providing a flush flat finish on the floor.
