The Sales Development Executive who believes every great project starts with a simple chat.
This instinct to listen defines her work ethic. Karen focuses on maintaining the flow of conversation to support a project’s success, viewing her daily interactions as a chance to solve problems through contact.
“My role gives me the perfect balance — I get to talk and listen all day,” she explains. “Building genuine relationships with clients is an important part of my approach—I aim to create trust and maintain open, positive communication throughout the process.”
Since joining our team, the immersion in the world of street furniture has changed Karen’s perspective on the urban environment. She notes that prior to working here, she “hadn’t really paid much attention to how public spaces are designed or used”.
This enthusiasm recently led to a moment of unexpected connection in Brighton. While stopping to photograph some Bell bollards, Karen almost stopped the traffic.
“A group of tourists from Spain, who spoke very little English, noticed what I was doing and started taking photos too!” she laughs. “I ended up using Google Translate to explain why I was so excited — it gave us all a good laugh!”
Moments like these highlight the human side of the business, but for Karen, the principles go deeper. When asked what allows people to thrive here, she points to the culture.
She adds that this internal culture directly influences the quality of work delivered. “We always put our clients first, doing everything we can to deliver the best possible service and ensure their experience with us exceeds expectations.”
Crucially, she feels this respect is reciprocal. “At Furnitubes, we truly feel valued as employees,” she says. “Our ideas and suggestions are always listened to and taken on board, which creates a supportive environment where everyone feels heard and appreciated.”
That spirit of collaboration and the willingness to embrace the moment, were on full display during the recent Furnifest.
Karen says the welcoming atmosphere is the main reason she’s already succeeding in her new role.
“I can always rely on my team for inspiration and support when facing a challenge,” she says. “They’ve helped me overcome obstacles, build my confidence, and learn something new every day.”
When she finally switches off, Karen’s focus returns to the people closest to her. “My family and friends are the most important part of my life,” she says. With a husband, and four boys aged between 18 and 22, she admits “there’s never a dull moment at home!”
To recharge, she heads outdoors or enjoys a quiet moment. “I love walking my two Scotties, trying my hand at golf when the weather is nice, and relaxing with a good puzzle — it’s my way to unwind and recharge.”
