About RailRoad Planter

Designed to stand the test of time.

As part of the RailRoad family, the contemporary RailRoad planter is available as a standalone planter, or it can be combined with RailRoad benches as part of continuous seating runs, perfect for big schemes and projects.

The planter is a plain steel planting container with a double course decorative timber top that also doubles as perched seating. It’s made from a folded heavy section recycled steel plate in our signature triple process finish and comes with a fully welded waterproof lining for optimum strength.

Planting and Water Drainage

Fully welded and watertight

A central drainage pipe is a standard feature in Railroad planters. We recommend that free-draining gravel is laid in the base of the planter up to the level of the top of the drain pipe, approx 90mm above the planter base. When filled beyond capacity, surplus water will overflow into the drainage pipe and out of the bottom of the planter.

The central drainage pipe is supplied with a top cap for use if drainage is not required
Placing a permeable membrane over the gravel will prevent the soil migrating down into the gravel

Handling & Installation

Due to its weight, these planters can be left freestanding. We’ve designed RailRoad planters with a few features to help with safe handling and minimise damage during installation.

They can be lifted by hand using straps wedged between the main body and plinth, or if the timber top rim is removed, with fixing holes that can be used as lifting eyes.
Once in position, the planter can be leveled with the adjustable feet (included) in each corner. These can be simply adjusted by hand prior to filling the planter.
