About AKRI 600

More Creative licence. Create any shape

We created AKRI steel retaining walls as a flexible, modular solution to introduce planting to busy urban environments. Now newly enhanced after rigorous testing, AKRI 600 is crafted with even thicker recycled steel panels with heights up to 1m high. This AKRI allows you to achieve everything AKRI 300 could but here you have even more creative licence with the flexibility to create any shape you want by combining straight with curved panels. Along with integrated seating, backrests and armrests – AKRI 600 allows you to integrate cladding so you can further blend the textures of Iroko with steel finishes from corten to stainless steel.

AKRI 300 already offers a certain level of flexibility with its seating, but the difference here is that AKRI 600 has been engineered with even more flexibility (and durability) to create any shape and ensure people can sit around the planter in any position. The seating module fixes to the existing planter fins with our unique access panel system. Cladding under benches can be added to create an ‘all-timber’ feel to the planter making for a softer landscape

Designed with maintenance in mind, our modules allow for simple install, removal and repair once everything is in place, even after the planter has been filled.

Seating, Backrest and Cladding

Set modules with vast possibilities

We’ve cleverly engineered AKRI 600 to form set modules based on standard lengths and angles that will accommodate the most amount of geometric requirements. So even with set modules, the possibilities are vast. Just as with a majority of our products, we use untreated Iroko as standard for the timber with a variety of finishes on offer at request.

We offer curved modules in convex and concave orientations at a length of 1600mm

R2.0 at 90′
R1.5 at 60′
R2.9 at 45′

Corner seating modules are 1000mm long at these angles: 60′ | 90′ 120′ | 135′ | 150′

Straight modules comes in following lengths: 1200mm | 1600mm | 2000mm | 2400mm

Armrests & Tablets

Retrofit at any point

Create more accessible schemes and projects using armrests and tablets with flexibility to place them to suit various seating solutions. Both can be specified in all steel or with timber tops.

Armrest size: 60mm
Tablet size: 290mm

With AKRI 600 you can retrofit armrests and tablets, but for the best results we recommend integrating these before the planter is filled

The Steelwork

Triple process Polyester Powder Coating

Unlike galvanising, our triple process coating offers smooth coverage of complex shapes and better adhesion whilst also offering the flexibility of choosing any standard RAL colour.

Corten

With its warm finish, Corten is often popular on schemes to soften the landscape; we offer this finish in a preweathered or natural state.

The Timbers

Iroko

Classification: Very Durable
Source: West Africa
Weathering: 3 months

A West African species that is rich in natural oils with a ‘Very Durable’classification, which is also relatively stable, readily available and is cost effective. Iroko is the timber that we use on the vast majority of our timber surfaced seating products, most often supplied in a smooth planed finish that will typically fade to silver-grey within 12 months.

If supplementary treatments are required to retain the original colouration for longer, the natural oils must be either allowed to dissipate through weathering over 3 months outdoors before application, or be cleansed if treatments are applied at the outset (applying a treatment directly to freshly machined timber tends to result in it sitting on the surface and not penetrating into the grain).

How We Make + Deliver It

1. Panels & Supports

We make AKRI in the UK, which allows any scale of planter to be created with super-fast lead times. Our system is delivered flat packed with easy to follow instructions.

Using your layout, our inhouse design team will create the most optimal modules for manufacturing and installation.

2. General Arrangements

As the possibilities are near limitless, each project will have a general arrangement drawing before any manufacturing takes place to ensure all expectations are met. Each panel is marked and etched with a unique reference so that it is easy to identify on site.

3. Read to Bolt Together

Panels are supplied with welded brackets. Fins, panels and top bracket are bolted together with the supplied fixings to provide a solid connection; however the anchors to fit to the ground are not supplied. For the pedestal and tray system, we offer an additional base tray for fixing the fin.
