    What is it famous for?

    The iconic Bell bollard, no doubt you’ve seen it out and about, was first introduced in 1986 and it’s been a staple on Kent and London streets ever since. It’s definitely not your run-of-the-mill post type bollard, It’s got a unique shape that’s hard to miss, which is probably why it’s made headlines a few times over the years on various council and community blogs. Its purpose is to protect the public from even the heaviest vehicles on the pavements that it serves.

    What does it do?

    Rooted into the ground, Bell Bollards serve to protect pedestrians by actively deflecting vehicle wheels from mounting pavements, street corners and curb sides.

    Its Bell shape means that if it is accidentally driven over when on a street corner, the profile of the Bell will encourage the vehicle’s tyres to mount its lower curve and deflect it back onto the road ensuring the safety of pedestrians.

    Among its other uses, the Bell bollard can also protect buildings and properties from damage, and when used on highways, it can act as a vehicle width resistor, slowing down traffic.

    Why is the Bell so strong?

    The Bell is no pushover, it’s made from tough cast iron and once installed correctly, will last for over 25 years. Concrete is used to anchor it into the ground and Its foundation root has apertures on either side that allow the concrete to pass through to ensure it is completely secured. The Bell bollard should be installed by highway professionals and securely fastened to the ground, ensuring that they are stable and secure.

    Double the protection

    As the old saying goes, there is safety in numbers, which is why we designed the Bell 115 and Bell 150 with vertical holes in the top, ideal for mounting circular bollards of 150mm diameter. You can combine the Bell bollard with our Capital or Zenith post bollards to  make them more visible particularly at night. For that extra visibility, add a reflective strip to bollards.
